Artists of any skill level or media will learn the best practices and techniques for creating vibrant art en plein air!
The basics of creating en plein air include…

  • how to select the best subject
  • edit visual chaos
  • find strong compositions
  • develop clean color mixes.

This class will begin in the late afternoon on Friday with a visit to the Gibbes Museum to view a specially curated collection of plein air works. This tour will inspire and introduce you to this incredible art-making practice and to your teaching artist for the weekend, Nancy Van Meter. Your creative weekend will then progress to creating art outdoors at Hampton Park in Charleston, SC throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday!

Registered participants are invited to bring any supplies of their choice in their preferred media for creating their plein air works – drawing media such as pencils, charcoals, or pastels in black/white or color, painting in any media including acrylic, oils, and watercolor are all great options. Works on paper, canvas, wood panel, etc. are all great options as well. Prepare to bring with you any items you need to sit or stand and work comfortably in a park setting.

A suggested supply list can also be provided upon request – please email megan@reduxstudios.org .
