Collagraphy is a printmaking process introduced in 1955 by Glen Alps in which materials are applied to a rigid substrate. The word is derived from the Greek word koll or kolla, meaning glue, and graph, meaning the activity of drawing. For example, shapes and textures are cut and applied from cardboard, mat board, string, etc. to build up texture. The plate is sealed with shellac and when dry ink is rubbed onto the printing plate. The plate is then run through a printing press with damp paper. The ink transfers to the damp paper making the print. Multiple prints can be made from the same plate.
During this two-day workshop we will create a printing plate and print it on a printing press.
Limited class size.
Masks are required in class.
