REDUX is pleased to offer Advanced Placement Studio Art for local and regional high school students! This full-year College-Board approved academic class will be taught via Google classroom and with *monthly face-to-face studio meetings.
Lead instructor, Rebecca Stone-Danahy, has over 20-years teaching experience working with high school students in the visual arts, and she is a College Board Reader for the AP Studio Art portfolios. Additionally, Ms. Stone-Danahy has 8-years experience developing and teaching online visual arts classes for the North Carolina Virtual Public Schools, and she most recently served as a course developer with VirtualSC. Her students have received scholarships and attended such prestigious schools as Rhode Island School of Design, the Maryland Institute College of Art, The Chicago Art Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design, Virginia CommonWealth University, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Asheville, Clemson, College of Charleston, Georgia State, Spelman College and many others too numerous to name.
Students in this course will have the opportunity to develop a portfolio for submission to the College Board in May. Each student will receive individualized instruction to further existing skill sets and ideas in the visual arts. Students will be responsible for independent work throughout the month, and will post their artwork digitally to meet deadlines and for classroom critiques. It is expected that students will be able to be reflective of their work as well as the work of their peers in an independent and digital format. Students are encouraged to attend the monthly class meetings to receive studio instruction, critique work in person, and further develop studio projects as required by the College Board.
*Please see scheduled dates: At least once per month, students will meet with the instructor for in-person instruction and studio time at Redux Contemporary Art Center. In November and February, these will be 2-day sessions with special workshops and guest artists. Outside of these face-to-face studio meetings, students will work consistently with their instructor and peers online to continue project work.
This class is geared to sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school for the 2018-19 school year.
*Late enrollment is acceptable through Nov. 15, 2018
