Redux Contemporary Art Center is pleased to announce a debut solo exhibition of work from Shelby Corso. The exhibition, Even further beyond thought- is the sky I watched as a child. With Love, from Earth., will be opening April 8th, 2022 from 5-8 pm, and will run until May 21, 2022.

In her paintings, drawings, and sculptures, Corso explores her relationship to symbolism, ritual, and mythmaking. Her work renders bright images of flowers, bodies, windswept, dreamy fields and brightly colored atmospheres. She often sources imagery from nature, stories, found objects, dreams, and imagination, working somewhere between abstract and representational. Corso works to synthesize visual and emotional information to describe the phenomenon of being on earth. She typically works on smaller scales to create a more intimate experience between the viewer and the work.

Shelby Corso (b. 1997, New York) received her BFA in painting in May 2020 from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland. Her work has been featured in group shows at the Fox 2 Gallery (Baltimore, MD), The Lazarus Center (Baltimore, MD), The Annmarie Garden Center (Solomons, MD), the MICA Main Building (Baltimore, MD), Prince Street Gallery (New York, NY), City Gallery (Charleston, SC), and Redux Contemporary Art Center (Charleston, SC). She has work hanging at the Met Council in New York City, the office of Charleston Behavioral Health and Wellness, and the MUSC Arts in Healing permanent collection. She lives and works in Charleston, SC.
