Redux offers a range of classes and camps for young people that provide exciting contemporary visual art experiences. The classes and workshops currently offered are listed below. Teenagers over the age of 17 are invited to participate in a selection of adult classes/workshops. Check our Classes Calendar for more info! Registration Policy: Advance registration is required. Classes may be subject to cancellation if not enough students register in advance. There are no refunds on classes, but we will happily give you credit for a class if there is proper notice, should you need to cancel your registration for any reason. >Full credit up to two weeks before the class >Half credit if you cancel the week before class begins >No credit if you cancel day of the first class or after

Sunday Figure Drawing

When: Every Sunday (excluding Sunday and Monday holidays) 5-7pm

Work from a nude model in a variety of artistic mediums - perfect for anyone wanting to work independently with a model at your own pace.  An instructor will be present to facilitate the session and help as needed.  All skill levels welcome to join in.  Easels, chairs and drawing boards are provided.   Artists must bring their own drawing and/or painting materials.

Screen Printing: a 5-week class

This five-week class is a guided practice, an introduction, and continuation of the screenprinting fundamentals covered in the One Night Workshop! Students will learn how to emulsify screens, burn images, and will work independently on their own projects. Instruction will include layout design, exposure to a variety of techniques to produce posters, prints, T-shirts, etc in as many colors as desired.

Courage in Creativity, an abstract art workshop, addresses the fear that comes with creativity. This workshop is a judgment free space where there are no goals, no grades, and no criticisms. There is, however; instruction, inspiration, encouragement and laughter. You’ll get to try out cool tools, fun abstract techniques, and lots of paints and textures before painting your own masterpiece on your own canvas. You’ll have access to 40+ paint colors (including metallics), 10+ texture mediums, and a wide variety of painting brushes and tools. ​Courage in Creativity is for all levels - beginners to professionals. We learn, we laugh, and we paint cool art. Join us!

Art Portfolio Development – Private Lessons

Are you an elementary, middle, or high school student wanting extra help with your portfolio?  Need help developing your portfolio for SOA, Governor's School, A.P. Studio Art, or college admission/scholarship?  Advanced Placement certified teacher, SCAD graduate, and Redux studio artist Megan Collier-Bansil (MFA) has 10+ years teaching  experience elementary through college-level, including six+ years experience teaching A.P. Studio Art, and is available for private lessons in 2D, Drawing, and 3D.

Private Lessons – Jewelry Making

Rebecca McMenemy is available to teach private lessons in a variety of jewelry techniques. She can start with the basics, such as stringing and finishing of beaded jewelry or we can work on different metalsmithing projects - basic soldering and metal forging, bezel setting, form folding, jewelers saw, or any projects that the student may already have in mind.  Rebecca McMenemy graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in Art History. Studying Art History exposed her to many different design styles and mediums. Though she has dabbled in many different genres over the years, jewelry has always been a passion for her.

Private Lessons with Kate Hooray Osmond

Kate Hooray Osmond is a professional artist who shows her work internationally. She is attaining her graduate degree at MICA (a top ten art school in the U.S.). She specializes is foundations and relational abstraction/ expressionism and has a background in portraiture, landscape, still life and plein air. Kate believes that each artist should make work that drives and challenges them individually rather than following a specific style. She places focus on strong composition, color relations, and mood and works with students to begin to think about their relationship with their own work.

Watercolor Illustration: Capturing Nature w/ Mia Loia

In the age where anyone can snap a quick picture, do you ever wish you could preserve your memories, and share your likes through a more unique medium? Watercolor Illustration can be an accessible and beautiful way to capture your favorite moments, sense of humor, appreciation for a live well lived. In this class each student will learn watercolor and ink techniques, and have an opportunity to create works of art focused on their individual preferences. Whether for a personal record or to share with the world, learn to use water color and ink to express yourself and your beautiful life!

Costume Workshop w/ Anna Todisco!

When: Saturdays, October 21st, 11am-2pm, & October 28th, 11am-1pm
Instructor:  Anna Todisco 
Cost: Members $80 / Non-Members $100
Ages: 9+
*Class size: minimum 3 students, maximum 8 students
In the spirit of sustainable fashion design and technology, in this 2-week workshop, Artist and designer, Anna Todisco will help you create the costumes of your choice!  Gather your own materials, even include some clothes that no longer give you life, and with some creativity, sewing, and reconstruction, we'll make it into the costume of your choice!  The first session will last 3 hours, to give students a great introduction and head start on making their costume, as they might continue working on them independently throughout the week.  Come back the following Saturday for 2 hours of finishing touches!  Great for any age, and a fun class to take with a friend or family member! 
Materials: You will need to supply sewing materials (fabric, thread, embellishments, clothing items, etc.), and a beginners sewing kit is recommended.  Limited sewing machines are available, so students are encouraged to bring their own as well. REDUX CLASS WORKSHOP 2017 - REGISTRATION

A.P. and High School Portfolio Development w/ Rebecca Stone-Danahy

When: 2nd Saturday of each month, 12-2:30pm
Instructor: Rebecca Stone-Danahy
Cost: $30 per session
Ages: 14+

Rebecca Stone-Danahy is a 22-year veteran teacher who has worked in four independent schools serving in a range of positions from teacher to fine arts administrator. She has served as an adjunct faculty member and Instructional Leader for the North Carolina Virtual Public Schools and SCVirtual, and she is a College Board Reader for the AP Studio Art portfolios. Rebecca’s students have received scholarships and attended such prestigious schools as Rhode Island School of Design, the Maryland Institute College of Art, The Chicago Art Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design, Virginia CommonWealth University, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Asheville, Clemson, College of Charleston, and many others too numerous to name.  
Rebecca’s passion lies in facilitating portfolio development with high school students. She enjoys mentoring and working with students one-on- one as they discover their creative voice through the visual arts.

Students should bring current projects and materials.  Tables, easels, and other materials will also be available for use.

Beginner’s Oil Painting – for ages 12-15

Local artist, Julia Deckman, is offering a 6-week beginner's oil painting course for ages 12-15.  Julia is a local Charleston artist working out of her studio in Redux Contemporary Art Center. She is deeply inspired by our beautiful city and is passionate about supporting local Charleston businesses and causes. 

In this Introductory Oil Painting class, enrolled students will learn:
- how to use and care for oil painting tools and materials
- how to use oil painting techniques
- how to continue creating art beyond the duration of the course 

*materials provided for in-class use, students will be provided with Julia's suggested list of personal supplies as well

Drawing with Colored Pencil

When: Tuesdays, Nov. 28, Dec. 5 & 12, 2017; 6-8:30pm 
Instructor: Stephen Paul Herchack
Cost: Member $120 / Non-Member $150
Age: 14+

In this 3-week class, students will learn how to create beautiful compositions with this brilliant, versatile and convenient media, as well as in combination with wet and other dry media!  Emphasis on blending and achieving subtle effects. Previous drawing or painting experience is not necessary but will be helpful.

Materials needed:  a basic 24-pencil set of “soft-blending” color pencils such as Prismacolor Premiers, art gum eraser, Xacto knife, and several sheets of heavy drawing paper.

About Education Program

Integral to the Redux mission is to educate our community about current practices in art through both an academic and hands on approach. Redux offers year-round art classes and workshops to the public for both kids and adults. Over 100 classes and workshops are available throughout the year covering a variety of topics both traditional and non-traditional. We have a class for everyone, whether you are a beginner or more advanced artist looking to broaden and enhance your talents.

Our classes are affordable, fun, challenging and taught by talented local qualified instructors. Courses include painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, art history and much more.
