Introduction to Digital Photography w/ Kenny McKeithan

When: Mondays, Sept. 11, 18, 25, and Oct. 2, 2017; 9am-12noon
Instructor: Kenny McKeithan
Cost: Members $144 / Non-Members $180
Ages: 16+
A four-week class.  While the principles of photography have not changed, there are some considerations which accompany the use of a digital camera. We will be taking the camera out of the “automatic” mode. This class will cover the selection of a file type, white balance, and image resolution which are among the basics of digital photography. The class will also cover the fundamentals of exposure, the effects of shutter speed and aperture, composition, autofocus, and equipment choices. Learning these fundamentals of photography will enable the student to capture better and more creative images.

Materials needed: Students must have a digital SLR camera or “bridge” camera (not a point-and-shoot) that allows the adjustment of aperture and shutter speed - it's ok if students do not know how to use their camera yet, that is what this class is for!  Not sure as to whether your camera is appropriate for the class? Email megan@reduxstudios.org with questions.
Additional materials needed: Students will need a notebook, preferably a three ring style, for their handouts and to take notes - there will be a handout for each of the 4 class meetings.

Later we’ll look at the Develop Module and examine the amazing editing and retouching tools Lightroom offers. We’ll also discuss the differences between Lightroom and Photoshop and why you may or may not need both. This is a great way for someone just starting out or thinking of purchasing the program to get a hands on look into what it can do for them and their photography!

This will be an introductory level class for beginning students. Some basic computer handling skills are needed but prior Photoshop experience is not necessary.

Materials needed by students: Students will need a laptop computer with Adobe Lightroom installed. This class will be taught on Lightroom 6/CC but is appropriate for Lightroom 3 and newer.  Unsure about purchasing the software? Students may download a trial version from Adobe if not ready to purchase it, this will work fine too!  Students will also need a notebook (as above) for notes and handouts - there will be a handout each week for this class.
