Natalie Abrams + Cedric Tai

Exhibit dates: October 10 – November 26, 2014

Redux welcomes two concurrent exhibitions by Natalie Abrams and Cedric Tai. Abrams’ work will be on view in the main gallery. Tai will take over the wall of Redux with a mural, and have an installation in the lobby, immediately as you enter the front doors of Redux.

About Natalie Abrams

My sculptures consist of vibrant and delicate creatures and environments made from organic and synthetic materials. These playful structures break down to reveal fragile underpinnings of a system in flux, examining the parallels between relationships present in bio-diverse ecosystems and those in urban environments. This work explores the impact on those relationships as we continue to neglect our future for the sake of our present.

I recognize the importance of the jester, the fool, in turning our expectations against ourselves. Some provocations can be subtle, to make us more conscious of the level of participation that is allowed at a given moment.

There is value in re-representing the many ways that indirectness is part of how we make meaning in our lives. People fall into ideal careers they didn’t know existed, fall in love by chance, but we still prioritise a perceived sense of control over embracing the unknown.
