Hot Pressed Poster Exhibition

Exhibit dates: September 1-15, 2006

“Redux Contemporary Art Center presented an exhibition of design and fine art, the “Hot Pressed Poster Fest,” that opened Friday with a reception at 6 p.m. This two-week exhibition celebrated the relationship of design and fine art.

Redux invited more than 15 artists, including Sean Star Wars from Oxford, Miss.; Standard Deluxefrom Waverly, Ala.; Blake Besharian from St. Louis, Mo.; and numerous others artist to participate. The exhibit of more than 30 original posters, all chosen for their exploration of art and design, created an interesting survey of contemporary graphic arts and poster making.

Saturday, all participating artists sold works during the artist vendor sale. This was an opportunity to meet and buy work directly from exhibiting artists. Throughout the second day, printers provided demonstrations by creating hand-pulled event posters that were sold. The day continued with an artist lecture focusing on the dialogue between design and art, followed by a special musical performance by local musicians Michael Flynn and Bill Carson.

Saturday’s schedule was as follows: the artists’ vendor sale was noon-4 p.m; the graphic arts lecture with Sean Star Wars and Standard Deluxe was 4-6 p.m.; music by Michael Flynn and Bill Carson took place 8 to 11 p.m.

The “Hot Pressed Poster Fest” was sponsored by Boomers Books, B’ZAR, Lesesnne and Parlour of Upper King Street.”
