Strategizing a Career in the Arts: Susan kae Grant
Redux Contemporary Art Center is proud to offer an annual professional development day for visual artists in the Lowcountry. Visiting artist Susan kae Grant lead this one-day workshop on Saturday October 15, 10am – 5pm. This workshop is recommended for any visual artist looking to gain a better understanding of the complex aspects of being an artist. Grant presented the audience with valuable knowledge and resources for building a successful career as an artist. Registration is required and limited to 40 people. Tickets are $30 . After October 8, tickets are $40. Lunch is provided.
This informational and inspiring workshop focuses on seven strategies that Grant believes are crucial for preparing yourself for a successful and satisfying career as an artist.
The morning session includes an introductory lecture addressing the practices of seeing the world as inspiration, developing courage and experimentation in creating new work with structures for studio production, self discipline and self confidence in managing personal projects, creating portfolio materials for marketing and getting work into the public arena, and establishing professional practices and networks for support and accountability.
The afternoon session is designed to focus in more detail on guidelines for creating successful artistsʼ statements, exhibition proposals and developing promotional packets. A question and answer session will examine and illuminate the working methodologies and philosophy of gallery representation and issues related to strategizing your career as an artist.
