/ ABOUT THE EXHIBIT /

Acoustic bassist Jason Ajemian is one of the members of the underground music scene in Chicago, playing avariety of creative improvised, noise, and experimental musics based in rock and jazz. He is a graduate of theWilliam Patterson College in New Jersey, where he studied with bassist Rufus Reid and percussionist KevinNorton. Arriving in Chicago in the fall of 2000, Ajemian embraced the then burgeoning progressive music community. Ajemian also vocalizes and utilizes electronics. His dizzying number of credits include work with Rob Mazurek, the Exploding Star Orchestra, Dragons 1976, Lay All Over It, Born Heller, Matt Bauder, Ken Vandermark's Crisis Ensemble, Who Cares How Long You Sink, Triage, Mandarin Movie, the Chicago Underground Trio, and countless others. (from Allmusic.com)

For this band and tour Jason has created scores in the architectural drawing software AutoCAD to create visual blueprints that dictate the flow and motion of a musical set as well as open the performers up to visual influences. The performers will have pictographic schematics representing both the overall flow of the set as well as close-ups of individual sections. While not the first time such things have been done it is definitely a development of the concept. And to hear top improvisers navigate it will be a treat. With Jacob Wick on trumpet, Peter Hansen on sax, Owen Stewart-Robertson on guitar, Marc Riordan on drums, and the composer himself Jason Ajemian on bass and vocals.

There will be a presentation beforehand at 6pm where the composer and performers will discuss the creation and implementation of their output. This presentation is free to everyone with help from grant support from the Coastal Community Foundation.
