Redux offers year-round art classes and workshops to the public for both kids and adults. Over 100 classes and workshops are available throughout the year covering a variety of topics both traditional and non-traditional. We have a class for everyone whether you are a beginner or more advanced artist looking to broaden and enhance your talents. Our classes are affordable, fun, challenging and taught by talented local qualified instructors. Courses include painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, art history and much more. All courses are timed to fit the schedules of working people and are taught by working professional artists. Through our classes, workshops and studio space, we provide the guidance and resources you need to bring your creativity and passion to life.

In addition to our paid education classes, Redux holds outreach classes for local after-school groups such as the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, YO Art!, and Girl Scouts. These classes are offered year round at no cost to the students.

/ REDUX OUTREACH PROGRAMS /

Redux Contemporary Art Center’s Outreach Program offers a wide range of free workshops to after-school organizations such as the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Yo Art!, and the Girl Scouts of America. Through our outreach program, students gain exposure of local and national artists with our gallery walks. Follow-up hands on workshops are offered in conjunction with the gallery walks to teach students how they can implement the basic fundamentals from each gallery show into their own work. Piggly Wiggly

This could not be made possible without the support of Piggly Wiggly, the offical sponsor of Redux's Education and Outreach Program.

Redux’s youth based outreach programs introduce disadvantaged children and youth to the arts. By partnering with other organizations that serve these youth; including YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Girl Scouts,Yo! Arts, and Charleston County School District, Redux has dramatically increased its impact on the community. Children begin with their visit to the Redux gallery with a tour of the facility where they learn about the current exhibition and what Redux represents to the Charleston community. This is followed by additional visits for workshop(s) that introduce children to visual art using materials and processes that would not typically be available to them in their school. Children are encouraged to express themselves with a variety of media and verbally communicate with their peers and the instructor as they create their work. This is an experience that these children do not receive during the school day, especially since classes are limited to 10 students, and most South Carolina schools have 30 – 40 students in each class, and facilities that limit what mediums can be used.

By participating in Redux’s Outreach Programs children and youth develop self confidence, leadership skills, and positive relationships with peers and adults. Students are encouraged and required to talk about their artwork while they are creating it, as well as upon completion. By talking with their peers, they develop self assurance and integrate language into their art. Small class sizes also help the students establish a personal relationship with the instructor; giving them a positive role model and helping them become comfortable communicating with adults. Students learn to respect their environment, classmates, instructor(s), and materials in their classes.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

150 Kids make Art to help Boys and Girls club stay open!

Redux Contemporary Art Center in collaboration with Second Presbyterian Church and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Trident Area has developed an exciting fundraising opportunity. “Art Thru the Eyes of a Child” is an awareness campaign that will make and sell art to help raise funds to support the Robert Gould Shaw Boys & Girls Club.

The art will be created by school children from the Second Presbyterian Kindergarten and members of the Robert Gould Shaw Boys & Girls Club. The two kid-club collaboration has a goal to raise $5000 from the sale of their acrylic and watercolor paintings at upcoming Second Presbyterian Church Events, in local venues such as the Starbucks on East Bay, May 1-31, and at the Boys and Girls Club Gala, March 26 at 28 Bridgeside in Mt. Pleasant.

This campaign will not only provide much needed financial support to Robert Gould Shaw Boys & Girls Club but will also expose members to different mediums of art. Redux will be providing group instruction to all of the children participating during the month February.
